Bastion Host Requirements
This document is intended for System Integrators who need to understand the purpose and requirements of the Bastion Host used to install and maintain SmoothGlue.
Purpose
The Bastion Host is used for the initial install and continued maintenance of SmoothGlue.
Bastion Host Requirements
The Bastion Host has three sets of requirements:
- Hardware
- Software
- AWS
Hardware
- 2 CPU
- 8 GB Ram
- 100 GB Local Storage
100 GB of local storage allows for the continued use of the bastion host over multiple version upgrades.
Software
The Bastion Host needs different software and tooling to be able to install SmoothGlue. The following is a list of required software:
Please ensure a compatible version of Zarf is being used. SmoothGlue Release Notes will indicate what version of Zarf should be used with a given SmoothGlue version.
AWS
The Bastion Host needs:
- Access to a VPC's private subnets in order to install and maintain SmoothGlue
- Ability to assume an IAM Role with the required IAM Policy for deploying SmoothGlue infrastructure
The Bastion Host needs good upload speed to the AWS's network. When deploying the SmoothGlue package, the Bastion Host will need to upload all of the containers to the cluster. As a result, an EC2 Bastion Host is recommended.
